The cost of using hair gel for your entire family can be pretty high sometimes, especially if you possibly have a lot of male children…because often those stinkers use WAY too much. I have found that the best ways to save money when it comes to hair gel, is to stretch it a bit by making it into DIY Spray Gel.
Why you need this life hack
As a seasoned mom of many kids, I am always looking for new ways to save money on the household items that we use on a daily basis.
Which is why I was super pumped when I figured out that I could easily create my own gel hair spray to help get the hair-care product expenses a little lower.
It’s a super simple way to save yourself some money as well.

How to make gel spray for hair:
How to make spray gel
Stretch hair gel by simply turning it into spray gel.
Materials
- Tub Of Hair Gel
- Extremely Hot Water
Tools
- Spray Bottle
- Pyrex Measuring Cup
Instructions
- Pour 2 parts nearly boiling water into a large Pyrex measuring cup, or other type of high-heat measuring device. I just use one cup as my "part" measurement typically.
- Add one part hair gel to the hot water, and mix well (sometimes a whisk is needed for this).
- Allow to cool to nearly room temperature (make sure that it is not left unattended near little ones or pets while it's hot). Then pour into desired spray bottle (I prefer a continuous spray, fine mist spray bottle), and use just like you normally would with spray gel. Use like normal gel hairspray.
Notes
*Depending on the type of hair gel that you use, you may need to adjust the water vs. gel ratio...however, two parts water to one part hair gel is a good place to start.
**If you would like to make exactly the amount of gel spray for hair that your spray bottle will hold, I suggest looking to see how many ounces your bottle holds. Once you know that number, then divide it by three. 1/3rd of the total amount will give you your one part measurement.

Anyway I feel like this is a simple little tip that should save you quite a bit of money over time (more so if you like expensive hair products or have lots of little boys).
I think that this would have saved my parents a lot of money when my brothers were younger, little boys seem to not know how much gel is too much gel and I even had one brother that used so much that he walked around with a dried blob of gel in his hair for years.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and supporting my endeavors to make people’s lives a little easier/better/more affordable.
