A couple of years ago, I was pretty upset because I had accidentally dripped RED candle wax across my very light colored carpet (across I’d say 20 feet of carpet) and I thought for sure that we were going to have to replace all of it. Later, I was talking to a friend about it (thanks Autumn) and she suggested something that I had never even heard of, using a towel and an iron. I remember thinking that there was no way that would work and it’d just make the mess bigger… but boy was I wrong. Thankfully, I was so desperate to solve the problem that I took Autumn’s advise and tried it, and I’m SO glad that I did!
Now I’m going to share with you how I do it, which is just some tips on technique…
Because after doing it on 20 feet of carpet, I had pretty much mastered my new skill.
This method of removing wax from carpet works so well that I poured wax into my carpet just to show you.
My (now ex) husband didn’t even freak out when I told him I was doing this because he knows that it works.
All you need is a ratty old towel(because you’re going to end up throwing it away when you are done) and an iron.
Lay a clean portion of the towel over the wax and then iron over that area for about 30 seconds (you may need to press down pretty hard).
Repeat until it’s all gone.
You just have to make sure that you are always starting out with a clean portion of the towel or you will make a giant mess.
I hadn’t heard about this method until I had already deep cleaned my carpets a couple of times and the wax still came out.

When the wax starts to peek through the towel, it’s time to move to a clean area of the towel and get back to ironing.

The only time I wasn’t happy with the results is when I tried it on some super cheap carpet and the wax had dyed the carpet. It still got all the wax out, but the dye in the candle just left behind a stain.
I’ve heard other people say that it works with paper towels too, but I really think that the fibers of the towel reach down a little deeper to let the wax take hold.
Let me know how it worked for you! Remember, it’ll work great just make sure to keep working your way around the towel…otherwise you’ll get wax everywhere.
